Krzemionki Archeological Museum
Sudol 135a, Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski 27-400 Poland
Nearby Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski lies the most interesting archaeological monument in Poland and one of the most valuable monuments of primeval mining in the world. It is a complex of prehistoric mines of striped flint functioning in the Neolihic period and at the beginning of the Bronze Age (3900 – 1600 B.C). Krzemionki, with other mining fields nearby, which together form the Krzemionki Prehistoric Striped Flint Mining Region, were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019. Despite the passage of time, the mines have endured unchanged until today. The tourist route in Krzemionki is approx. 1.5 km long and presents a unique post-mining landscape from over 5,000 years ago. In Krzemionki, you can also visit museum exhibitions and a reconstruction of a prehistoric village. The multimedia exhibition „Lords of Flint” presents the functioning of Neolithic mines and the times in which their creators lived and worked. Krzemionki is a Nature Reserve and a Historic Monument, too.
